Which Induction Kit Fits My VAG Engine? EA111 vs EA211 vs EA888 Explained

If you drive a VW, Audi, SEAT, or Skoda and you're looking for an induction kit, the most important thing to get right is your engine code. VAG has used several different engine families over the years, and the kits are not interchangeable. Here's a straightforward guide to help you find the right fit.

How to Find Your Engine Code

Your engine code is usually found on a sticker inside the engine bay, on your V5C logbook, or via an OBD2 reader. It's typically 3ā€“4 letters (e.g. CJZA, CHPA, CCZB). Once you have it, match it to the engine family below.

EA111 ā€” Chain-Driven 1.2 TSI & 1.4 TSI (Pre-2012)

The EA111 is the older chain-driven platform found in earlier MK5/MK6-era VAG cars. Key engine codes include:

  • 1.4 TSI: CAXA, CAXC (standard), CAVE, CAVF (twincharged)
  • 1.2 TSI: CBZA, CBZB

Compatible vehicles: VW Golf Mk5/Mk6, Polo Mk5, Audi A3 8P, SEAT Leon Mk2, Ibiza Mk4, Skoda Octavia Mk2/Fabia Mk2.

Note: The 1.4 TSI Twincharged (supercharged + turbocharged) variant requires a specific kit ā€” it is NOT compatible with standard EA111 kits.

EA211 ā€” Belt-Driven 1.0 TSI, 1.2 TSI & 1.4 TSI (2012ā€“2020)

The EA211 replaced the EA111 from around 2012 and is belt-driven. Despite sharing displacement sizes with the EA111, the engines are completely different and require different kits. Key engine codes include:

  • 1.4 TSI: CHPA, CHPB, CMBA, CZCA, CZDA, CZEA
  • 1.2 TSI: CJZA, CJZB, CJZC, CJZD, CYVA, CYVB
  • 1.0 TSI: CHZB, DKLA, DLAA (later EA211 EVO variant)

Compatible vehicles: VW Golf Mk7/Mk7.5, Polo 6C/AW, Audi A3 8V, A1 8X, SEAT Leon Mk3, Ibiza Mk4/KJ, Skoda Octavia Mk3, Fabia Mk3.

EA888 ā€” 1.8 TSI & 2.0 TSI (Multiple Generations)

The EA888 is the performance-oriented 4-cylinder found in GTI, R, S3, and Cupra models. There are three main generations:

  • Gen 1 (EA888.1): CCZB, CDLF, CDLA ā€” Golf GTI Mk5/Mk6, A3 8P, TT Mk2, Leon FR/Cupra Mk2, Octavia vRS
  • Gen 3 (EA888.3): CJXB, CJXC, CHHB ā€” Golf GTI/R Mk7/Mk7.5, A3 8V S3, TT/TTS 8S, Leon Cupra 280/290/300
  • Gen 4 (EA888.4): DKZA, DLBA ā€” Golf GTI/R Mk8, A3 8Y, Octavia Mk4 vRS

Each generation requires a generation-specific kit ā€” do not mix generations.
